Park Tae Hwan places 2nd in the 200m freestyle. Michael Phelps took the gold, beating his own world record time at 1:42:96. Park came in second at 1:44:85 while 3rd place was by Peter Vanderkaay at 1:45:14. Through this win, Park Tae Hwan became the first Asian to ever win a medal in the 200m freestyle.

Park Tae Hwan expressed his desire to beat Phelps 4 years from now in London Olympics. At this rate, it seems possible that he can dethrone the current king. 4 years from now, Park Tae Hwan will be 23, Phelps’ current age. As a swimmer, this is the age where they can improve their skill and strength the most. In addition, 4 years ago in Athens when he was 19, Phelps swam the 200m freestyle in 1:45:32 which was .47 sec slower than Park Tae Hwan’s time.

Park Tae Hwan brightly remarked “Phelps is not someone who can be hindered right now. It was a great honor being able to compete against him. Even though I’m no match for him now, I would like to be able to have a good match against him at the London Olympics.”

Park Tae Hwan is set to compete in the 1500m freestyle on Sunday. Phelps will not be competing so hopefully he can win another gold. =D Awww Park Tae Hwan is sucha cutie. He became a superstar ^^ Anyways, I hope he is able to beat Phelps in London, but right now I gotta say, this Olympics is gonna be owned by Phelps.
